Still life of ten apples in two groups on a blue-green and beige background
A still life depicts ten apples arranged on a surface. The background is horizontally divided into two main sections: a muted blue-green upper section and a light beige or off-white lower section. Two distinct groups of apples are present. The upper group, consisting of four apples, is arranged in a loose horizontal line across the upper half of the blue-green section. These apples display a mix of yellow, green, and red hues; one on the left is predominantly yellow-green, and another in the center is mostly red. The lower group, comprising six apples, is clustered in the lower right portion of the painting, primarily on the beige surface but extending slightly onto the blue-green. This group also shows a variety of yellow, green, and red tones. A prominent apple on the far left of this lower cluster is largely red with yellow and green highlights, while a large apple in the center of this group is predominantly yellow. Visible brushstrokes create texture on both the apples and the background surfaces. Shadows are cast by the apples, particularly on the blue-green section, adding depth. A light-colored, vertical, rectangular object or fold of fabric appears behind the lower group of apples, near the center right.
