A man flayed, figures tending fires, and others observing from a balcony
The painting depicts a multi-figure scene against a gold and light-colored background. On the left, a two-story architectural structure with a balcony. In the lower left, a man in a yellow tunic uses a long stick to tend a small fire on the ground. Above him, on the balcony, two figures observe the scene; one wears a dark hat and green tunic, the other a red tunic and points an arm to the right. In the center, a bare-chested man, wearing a green cloth around his lower body, stands facing left, looking upwards. His back is being flayed by a man in a red tunic, who holds a dark, paddle-like tool. To the right of the central flayed figure, another man in a light-colored tunic bends over a second small fire, also tending it with a stick. Behind these figures, two men in blue and gold tunics stand, one holding a long stick. The upper right portion of the painting features a small, haloed figure, partially obscured by the frame, appearing from a cloud-like formation against the gold background. The ground throughout the scene is a light, cracked beige color. The gold background on the right is heavily textured and shows significant cracking.
