A bearded man in flowing robes standing on stylized waves with a sword
The vertical ink wash painting features a single figure, a man with a long beard and mustache, rendered in black and gray tones on a pale background. The man is positioned slightly to the left of the center, facing left with his head turned to look forward. His hair is pulled back and tied into a bun on top of his head. He wears long, flowing robes, depicted with broad, dark brushstrokes for the outlines and lighter gray washes for the folds and volume. His right arm is bent, with his hand appearing to be tucked into his sleeve or holding something unseen. His left arm is mostly obscured by the voluminous sleeve. The lower part of his body and robes are shown standing on a series of stylized, dark gray wavy lines, depicting water. Beneath his feet, a long, slender object, possibly a sword or staff, lies horizontally across the waves. On the right side of the artwork, near the bottom, two vertical characters, '友我', are written in black ink, followed by a square red seal.
