A vertical scroll painting with a central mandala, a multi-limbed figure, and many smaller figures
The artwork is a vertical rectangular scroll painting, dominated by a central, intricate mandala design. At the top, a dark blue fabric panel is partially covered by a folded, lighter beige and green fabric flap. Below this, the painted section begins with a horizontal row of small, seated figures, each within an individual compartment, against a red background. The central mandala is a complex arrangement of squares and circles. At its core is a large red square, within which a central, multi-limbed, red-skinned figure is depicted in a dynamic pose. This central figure is surrounded by four smaller figures, one in each cardinal direction, also within the red square. This inner square is bordered by a series of concentric bands: a gold band, a green band with small figures, a blue band with more figures and decorative patterns, and an outermost red band containing a row of small, seated figures. Beyond the main mandala structure, the painting extends with additional rows of small figures. These include seated figures in various poses and dynamic, standing figures, some appearing to ride animals, all against a dark background. The bottom of the painted section features a horizontal row of these dynamic figures. The scroll concludes with a plain dark blue fabric panel at the bottom, which is attached to a red-painted wooden dowel. The overall color palette includes prominent reds, blues, greens, golds, and whites.
