Gilded altarpiece: central woman holding infant, flanked by two figures, smaller figures below
A tall, rectangular altarpiece with a pointed, triangular top is centered against a black background. The entire frame is richly gilded and ornately carved. In the central panel, a woman with fair skin is depicted in a dark blue robe with gold trim, holding an infant. A golden halo with radiating lines surrounds her head. The infant, also with fair skin, is seated on her left arm, wearing a gold patterned garment, and reaches up with his right hand towards her chin. A golden halo surrounds his head. The background behind them is a shimmering gold, with faint patterns and faint depictions of winged figures in the upper corners. On either side of the central figures, at mid-height, are two standing figures. On the left, a figure in a blue robe holds a staff. On the right, a figure in a long, dark robe stands. Below the main panel, a horizontal strip, known as a predella, features a series of eight smaller, seated figures, each within an arched niche, dressed in various colored robes, with golden backgrounds behind them.
