A tall ink painting shows towering mountains, dense trees, and thatched-roof houses in a valley
The artwork is a tall, vertical ink wash painting, primarily in shades of black and gray, depicting a mountainous landscape with human dwellings. The upper third is dominated by a towering, craggy mountain peak, rendered with textured brushstrokes suggesting rock and dense foliage. Lighter, misty areas suggest clouds or distance around the peak. In the upper right corner, a block of vertical black text is visible, accompanied by two red square seals below it. The text reads: "人煙佳處是山頭 月落烏啼霜滿天 江楓漁火對愁眠 姑蘇城外寒山寺 夜半鐘聲到客船 清涼 靜觀". Below the main peak, the mountains slope downwards, becoming densely forested. Nestled among these trees, slightly left of center, are three structures with distinct, rounded, thatched roofs. The largest structure is centrally placed, with two smaller ones to its left and slightly below. These appear to be houses or pavilions, with light-colored walls visible beneath the dark roofs. A narrow waterfall or stream cascades down the mountain face to the left of the houses. The surrounding trees are depicted with varying textures, some as dense clusters of foliage, others as individual trunks. The lower half of the painting features more trees, notably two prominent, tall, dark-trunked trees that rise from the bottom edge in the lower center. These trees have textured bark and dense foliage. To the right of these trees, a winding path or stream descends, following the contours of the land. The foreground is filled with more rocky terrain and dense vegetation, rendered with dark, rich ink washes. Two small red square seals are visible in the lower right corner, near the bottom edge.
