Monochrome landscape with towering mountains, a lake, trees, small structures, and a vast sky
This monochrome painting, rendered in dark ink on a light brown ground, depicts a vast mountainous landscape. The composition is dominated by rugged, towering peaks that rise from the lower center and extend across the left and central portions of the image. The mountains are textured with fine lines suggesting rock formations and sparse vegetation, particularly along their ridges and slopes. In the upper center-right, a small, gabled building with a fence is perched atop a prominent peak, surrounded by dark, brush-like trees. Further to the right, on a distant ridge, a cluster of smaller buildings is visible. A winding path or series of steps can be seen ascending the slopes of the central mountains from the lower left. At the base of the mountains, in the lower center, lies a calm body of water, possibly a lake or pond, with a small waterfall flowing into it from the right. Several trees, some appearing bare and others with dark foliage, are scattered around the water's edge and on the lower slopes. A small, low bridge or walkway spans a narrow section of water in the lower left-center. Calligraphy and seals are present in the upper and lower corners. In the upper left, a vertical column of characters reads "壬申甲申七月四日寫於寓齋" followed by a red square seal. In the upper right, two vertical columns of characters read "岩居橋寫意". Two red square seals are in the lower left, and one red square seal is in the lower right.
