Mountains, dense trees, a winding river, and small dwellings under a light brown sky
This horizontal painting is rendered on a light brown ground. The composition is dominated by a range of mountains covered in trees, extending across the width of the painting and receding into the background. The mountains are depicted with textured strokes in shades of brown, green, and dark grey. Many peaks and slopes are densely covered with dark green pine trees, rendered with fine, vertical brushstrokes. Lighter green foliage is visible on some lower slopes and among the trees in the foreground. A winding river or stream flows from the lower left, moving towards the center and then disappearing behind large, rounded rocks on the right side of the painting. Along the riverbanks in the lower left and center, various deciduous trees with lighter green leaves and some bare branches are interspersed with more pine trees. Several small, simple structures, possibly houses or huts, are nestled among the trees and rocks near the river in the lower-center and right. These structures feature dark roofs and light-colored walls. A small bridge or pathway appears to cross the river in the lower-center. The upper portion of the painting, representing the sky, is a plain, light brown, matching the overall ground color. In the upper right corner, vertical dark ink text is present, accompanied by two red square seals. The text reads: "百尺為 宗善寫作生 堂者". A smaller, fainter red square seal is also visible in the upper left corner.
