Seven white and black chickens with dark combs on a golden ground, framed by a border
The painting features seven chickens, predominantly white and black, against a plain golden-yellow background. The composition is horizontally oriented, with the chickens arranged in two main groups. On the left side, a large white chicken stands upright, facing right, with its wings slightly spread, giving it a fluffy appearance. Its comb and wattles are a dark blue-black. To its lower left, a smaller, dark black chicken with a similar fluffy texture and dark comb sits or stands low to the ground, facing right. In the center, a few small green plants with tiny white flowers are depicted on the ground. On the right side, a group of five chickens is clustered. A large black chicken stands prominently in the upper center-right, facing left, with its head turned slightly towards the viewer. Its comb and wattles are also dark blue-black. Below and to its left, a white chicken with a dark comb pecks at the ground. To the far right, a smaller white chicken stands, facing left, with its head slightly lowered. Behind the large black chicken, another white chicken is partially visible, and a fifth white chicken is visible further back, its head and upper body obscured by the black chicken. All the chickens have feathery, soft-looking plumage. Their legs are dark, and their feet have visible claws. In the lower right corner, there is a small red square seal with illegible dark characters, and above it, two vertical dark characters. The entire painting is enclosed within a decorative border. The border is dark brown with a repeating pattern of golden floral or leaf motifs.
