A still life of light and dark grapes, peaches, and green leaves in a dark compote
A still life shows fruit arranged in a compote against a dark background. The fruit is centered and overflows from a dark, stemmed vessel. Large bunches of light green grapes, some with visible stems, cascade downwards on both sides of the compote. Interspersed among them are smaller clusters of dark, purplish-black grapes. Several peaches are prominent, with one large peach centrally placed on the compote, displaying soft pinkish-orange blush over creamy yellow skin. Other peaches are partially visible behind the grapes. Green leaves are scattered throughout the fruit. A small, winged insect, possibly a wasp or fly, is visible in the upper left quadrant, hovering above a peach and some grapes. The compote itself has a dark, possibly glass or ceramic, bowl and a fluted stem, resting on a wide, circular base. Gold-colored bands accent the stem and base. The fruit and compote rest on a dark brown, polished surface, likely a table, which occupies the lower third of the painting. The background is uniformly dark, almost black.
