A vertical painting shows geese flying and gathered on an earthy background with sparse reeds
This vertical scroll painting features a muted, earthy brown background. Seven geese are depicted in flight across the upper half of the composition, rendered in dark grey and black ink with wings spread. Two geese fly in the top left, three in the mid-right, and two more in the lower-middle. In the upper left corner, a vertical column of dark calligraphic text reads '華亭秋水圖 辛卯冬日寫於 清暉閣', followed by a red square seal. The lower half of the painting shows a landscape with sparse, dark reeds on the left side, extending upwards from the bottom edge. Below and to the right of the reeds, a group of approximately ten geese are gathered on what appears to be land or shallow water. Some stand upright, while others bend their necks downwards. Further to the right and slightly lower, another smaller group of about five geese is similarly positioned. The ground and water are subtly indicated by variations in brown and ochre tones.
