Two vertical scroll paintings show mountainous landscapes with water, trees, small boats, and structures
Two vertical scroll paintings are presented side-by-side. Each scroll features a landscape rendered primarily in black ink wash on a light brown ground, with subtle variations in tone. The left scroll depicts a towering, jagged mountain range dominating the upper half, with a lighter sky above, containing a faint circular form in the upper right. Below the mountains, a wide body of water stretches across the mid-ground, dotted with several small, dark boats. The foreground features rocky terrain and various trees, including dense clusters of pines and some deciduous trees, rising from the lower left and bottom. Small, indistinct figures are visible near the water's edge in the lower left. The painted landscape is bordered by a narrow, patterned band in gold and black, which is then surrounded by a wider light brown paper mounting. This mounting is further framed by a lighter green fabric with a repeating diamond pattern, visible at the top and bottom. Faint red seals and indistinct black text are visible in the upper left corner of the painted area. The right scroll also features a prominent, craggy mountain range in its upper half, set against a lighter sky. A body of water occupies the mid-ground, with small boats. The foreground is characterized by tall, dark pine trees that rise from rocky outcrops on the right. Nestled among these rocks and trees are several small, dark structures, including a pavilion with a pointed roof near the water's edge on the lower right. Small figures are also discernible in the lower right. This scroll shares the same patterned borders and fabric mounting as the left scroll. Faint red seals and indistinct black text are visible in the upper right corner of the painted area.
