A landscape painting with mountains, swirling clouds, trees, and gabled-roof buildings by water
The upper half of this horizontal landscape painting is dominated by a series of large, textured mountains with rounded and pointed peaks, depicted in shades of green and blue-grey. Swirling white clouds or mist are nestled between these mountain ranges. Further in the distance, fainter, lighter blue mountains recede towards the horizon. In the upper left corner, several lines of black characters are visible, reading "暮雲春樹圖" followed by "丁丑春日寫於滬上之百生". Below these characters are two red square seals. In the mid-ground, a wide expanse of water or flat land stretches towards the right, bordered by lower, undulating hills and sparse trees. The foreground, on the left, features a cluster of trees with varying foliage, some appearing bare-branched while others have denser leaves. To the right of these trees, a group of buildings with dark, gabled roofs and light-colored walls are nestled near the water's edge. Several trees with long, drooping branches are prominent around the buildings and along the bank. Rocky outcrops and textured ground define the immediate foreground. The painting is rendered in a muted palette of greens, blues, and browns on a light, almost beige, background.
