Ink painting on a vertical scroll depicting orchids, a large rock, bamboo, and calligraphy
A vertical scroll features a large section of calligraphy at the top, followed by a smaller section of calligraphy and seals, and then an ink painting at the bottom. The background is a light, off-white paper, with some scattered dark speckles in the top calligraphy section. The top section contains numerous columns of black ink calligraphy, written in a flowing script, covering approximately one-third of the scroll's height. Below this, in the middle section, are two columns of larger black ink calligraphy. The right column reads: "學書學畫 江上漁樵 小舟一葉 紅塵不染 清風明月為伴 丁丑春日 寫於南窗 石濤". Below this are two red square seals, one reading "石濤" and the other "原濟". The left column reads: "此畫為石濤真跡無疑 丁丑春日 題於南窗耳". Below this are two more red square seals, also reading "石濤" and "原濟". The bottom portion of the scroll contains an ink painting rendered in black ink washes and lines on the light paper. Above the painting, to the left, is another block of black ink calligraphy that reads: "若非三春雨 何處蘭九畹 青山主人為寫此贈佳". Below this are three red seals, two square and one rectangular, reading "石濤", "原濟", and "清湘老人". The painting depicts a cluster of orchids, a large rock, and bamboo shoots. A large, rounded rock, rendered in varying shades of gray ink, occupies the lower left. Its surface shows texture through lighter and darker washes. A cluster of orchids with long, slender leaves that arch gracefully outwards grows in front of the rock. Several delicate orchid flowers, each with four petals, are depicted on thin stems rising above the leaves. To the right of the orchids, a few thin bamboo shoots with small, pointed leaves emerge from the ground. The ground is indicated by light, horizontal ink washes and scattered small, dark dots. A few small, dark, clover-like plant forms are visible near the base of the rock and orchids.
